Description
A sizable, gold bezel ring set with an intaglio cut carnelian stone, with extensive spirals and floral scroll-work ornamentation and embellishment on the bezel body.
While the gold bezel probably is 19th century Persian, the intaglio is ancient Sassanian, 5th-6th century AD, and the iconography is referring directly to ancient Persian and Neo-Babylonian beliefs about the Universe and many ancient and which is shared by many other cultures, Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian and Greek views of the celestial world.
Remarkably interesting ring which goes beyond being a simple piece of jewelry to be worn on one’s finger; it is an object to tell not just a story but a thousand of them.
