Description

A well-preserved bronze of the head of a horse with a decorative neck and head of a duck on the back. Well designed and cast with careful chasing to enliven the details, it was probably a finial or handle on a piece of domestic furniture, possibly a chair, bed or similar. It can safely be dated to the second century AD.

Originally acquired from Robert Symes Ltd., in London on April 29, 1988.
