160: Ancient Roman Jasper Intaglio in Antique Gold Ring

Oval red jasper Roman period intaglio, with a carved depiction of a standing man holding a staff and a coiled serpent around and along it. His hair is well groomed, and his beard is trimmed and well formed. He is none other than the ancient god of health and medicine: the ancient Greek and Roman god Asclepius. The ring would have been worn and belonged to an Ancient Roman doctor, a medical person who was an acolyte of the ancient deity and a practitioner of the Art of Healing who had taken the Hippocratic Oath.  It would make a great gift to a person who works in the medical field.

Set in an antique gold octagon shield type setting.

The intaglio is 1st-3rd century A.D. intaglio. The gold ring is from the 1800’s.

Condition: It is intact, sturdy and suitable for wearing.
