Description
A rare Archaic Period squat Lekythos, Attic black figure vase of a Silenus plowing with an Ox and with the god Dionysius leading the way. Lekythos like this were used during funerary ceremonies and placed in the tomb as an offering for the benefit of the deceased in the Afterlife. Silenus and Dionysius are deities associated with merriment and ecstasies, perhaps wishes by the living for the Eternal Life of the just departed.
