Description
A very rare Medieval cast bronze Ecclesiastical Ciborium (container for the Holy Sacraments) in octagonal form, decorated on all facets figures of standing Saints or Apostles standing under laudatory arches in the manner of Early Christian Apostles, and with high relief portraits of Saints within roundels. This container was probably the middle section of an elaborate Ciborium and the complete liturgical implement included a base (stand) and a top (cover). Probably 12th/13th century.
