Description
A Celtic bronze figure of an Iron Man, a figure with deep roots in Celtic People’s mythology. While the Celtic peoples today are known to be concentrated in only Ireland, Scotland and a few other scattered areas of North-Western Europe, in ancient times they were to be found all over the European continent and Eastern Asia as well, with remarkable population presence in Byzantine Asia Minor where they freely intermixed with the Greek population of the area.
This bronze dates to the Roman Period, 3rd or 4th century AD and it may show an attempt to repair a revered original bronze representing Hercules or the “magical” severing of the hero’s legs and subsequent reattachment with “Celtic’ magical iron ones. In either case, this is a rare and very interesting object for lovers of Celtic Culture.
