Exceptional 18th c. ladies’ silver box with a Biblical Scene and a Hunting Scene on the other side cover.
The top cover embossed with Susanna and the Elders, a moral story about a virtuous woman who is falsely accused of enticement and lack of morals, perhaps a constant reminder that the owner of this box may run the risk of unwittingly appear to be enticing.
The other side cover showing an extensive landscape and a hunter with his dog and hunting rifle taking aim. No other animal is shown other than a slithering snake, perhaps a constant reminder of danger lurking at any moment.
The sides are decorated with a foliate and floral running design.
Excellent quality, a nice object to hold and behold.
