Description

A French faience platter 16th Century, depicting the Baptism of Christ. This type of French glazed faience, also known as majolica, derives from the workshop of the 16th century French potter Bernard Palissy (c. 1510–90), who usually referred to his own creations as “rustic”. The themes depicted on these platters are usually mythological reflecting all the interest of the European Renaissance but also religious as in this case. A truly rare example.
