Alfred Émile Léopold Stevens (11 May 1823 – 24 August 1906), Belgian. A painting of a garden scene depicting an elegant young lady in period dress, seated by a table and reading intently the unfolding story within a book, while an older lady also seated by the table is engrossed in knitting. Painted oil on canvas, second half of the 19th century.
