SKU: 164 Categories: , ,

Description

Embossed thin gold sheet made to serve as cover for the eyes of the deceased before interment; the entire surface is decorated with abstract designs and has an overall repousse abstract geometric ornamentation. The reddish surface patina is due to the soil constitution where this sheet was found. A rare, truly ancient piece of Judaica.

Condition: A somewhat “crushed texture” on the surface, with minor imperfections, otherwise intact.

Size: 3” inches wide

Provenance: Collection of Robert Feuer, LI, NY., acquired in 1980’s Tarshish, Jerusalem.
