Description
Rare ancient Greek marble carving of a chariot lead by for horses (known as a “Quadriga” in Latin, “Tethrippon” in Greek), Attic, probably Pentelic marble, c. 510 BCE. The figure of the lone charioteer bears strong resemblance to the famous Charioteer of Delphi. While painted representations of a Tethrippon can be seen painted on vases of the time, few three-dimensional carved reliefs this iconography have survived.
