Description
Limoges Enamel Plaquette on copper, depicting Saint John the Baptist also known as the Forerunner, French, 17th/early 18th century. The saint is shown holding the Lamb of God, an allusion to Christ, the Sacrificial Lamb, who came to redeem Mankind through His Sacrifice on the Cross. The saint’s staff is topped by a cross and the saying in Latin “ecce Agnus Dei” meaning this is the Lamb of God.
