Description
A good, highly embossed brass alms platter, with a profuse iconographical theme centered around the abundance of earth’s fruits in late summer, with two men at the center carrying a heavy load of harvested grapes and with a running band of different animals and decorative foliage.
The platter, originally crafted as a church collection salver or dish, and dating to the late 16th/early 17th century was re-worked in the late 18th or sometime in the 19th century, into an inverted version of the original form and it was pierced to introduce an added dramatic decorative element that creates an interplay of light and shadow effect.
However, the later re-work was performed with respect to the true spirit or the original design with no introduction of alien or external elements.
Condition: Losses, repairs.
