SKU: 163 Categories: , ,

Description

Stylized scrollwork gold sheet, 2 ¼” inches long. It is interesting to note that the stylized scrolls and the associated elongated ovoid shapes are a remnant of the very naturalistic Minoan Art octopus and squid that decorate Minoan vases of an earlier age of Aegean Art.

Similar pieces can be seen in the Greek National Archeology Museum in Athens, Greece and they were found in the Tholos Tombs of the mythic citadel of Mycenae as part of the Royal Treasures of the King Agamemnon. It dates to the time of the Trojan War, c. 1200 BC. Gold sheets like this are not only rare but they constitute national treasures for Greece and Eastern Mediterranean countries.
