Description
Renaissance Period painted, carved gesso and terracotta bass-relief housed in a handmade tabernacle shaped wood frame.
A finely rendered depiction of the Virgin and the Child Christ, created by one of the Italian Renaissance great Old Masters to be displayed in a church building or a private chapel of a well-to-do merchant of the time; it shows the close bond between a mother and her infant son, and this classic theme is portrayed with sensitive rendering of the facial expressions the overall design composition. Place of creation is most probably Florence, or a nearby workshop in a town closely connected to the great Renaissance city.

Condition: Overall good with some over painting (judged to be unnecessary and easily removable).
